The Bible tells us to "pray without ceasing" which has always been a challenge for me. My ADHD brain darts around in a million directions if I don't work very hard to keep my mind from wandering. So what's the deal with the monkey you're asking...
This well-worn beanie baby came from a Happy Meal when Josh was about 4 years old. He used to carry it around in his pocket, even through Elementary school. That monkey is only thing either one of my kids have kept around that long without losing it!
Anyway, Josh has had some tough challenges in school since about 3rd grade. On a particularly rough day, I told Josh that I was going to carry "Monkey" around all day and that any time I felt him in my pocket it would remind me to pray for him while he was at school. Since then, I've carried the "Prayer Monkey" on quite a few occasions and it's been a great reminder for me.
Today was Josh's 8th grade math final and his last day of middle school. The grade on this test could mean summer school for him if he didn't do well and I'd been privately fretting about it for 2 weeks.
After the boys left for school I was picking up piles of laundry from their room and spotted "Monkey" sitting on top of the TV. Remembering other times I had carried "Monkey" around during a school day, I figured today would be a great day to have an extra little prayer reminder with me.
Later this afternoon I held my breath as I checked the "parent viewer" for his math exam grade. I burst into laughter and did a double take on what was recorded there. The kid who barely passed math this year got a 95% on his final exam. I guess he learned something after all and I bet his teacher is just scratching his head over this one.
There are times I worry so much about Josh just getting through another year of school. Any mom of a child with learning differences knows the feeling. My prayers this morning for Josh were that he have clarity in his thoughts, be able to stay focused and get through this test successfully.
Well, my prayers may be scattered, but God does answer.
